the photos should say it all here

Sunday we went to a cookout with some folks from our Birth Class.  Amy, Sam and Eliza hosted.  The twins Ian and Eric were there and so was Charlotte.  It was fun to get together and hear how everyone is doing after a few months.

This picture shows Simon actually sitting up without using his hands to lean on.  He fell over a few seconds after this picture was taken and bonked his head.  A few hugs from Daddy and he was fine though.

Simon went to his first baseball game last night.  The season ends next week so we just made it.  He had a good time.  Tanta Amy stopped by on one of her whirlwind trips up and down the east coast so she went to the game with us.  We decied to leave before the end of the game since he was still in good spirits and we didn’t want to get stuck idling through the parking garage forever and give him a chance to change his mind about how much fun he had!  He seemed very excited to watch the rowdy college guys a few rows up as they hooted and hollered drinking their beers and slamming their noise maker sticks together…something to aspire to I guess.

we seem to have a lot of books in our house.  mommy sometimes says that daddy reads for a living.  i am enjoying books of all sorts.  mainly ones that i can put in my mouth and the soft ones that make crinkly noise are best.  this book that mommy is reading now Our Babies, Ourselves is of particular interest to me.  It has a picture of a mom’s hands with her baby’s feet in them.

simon is very interested in what people are drinking and eating lately.  he especially likes to touch the outside of a cold glass of water or iced tea.  the other night he decided a colorful bottle of hard cider was even more interesting yet.

up until now most of our playdates have been time for mommy to get together with other moms and us kids were just there usually eating or sleeping.  This past week we got together with Amber and Alexa, and then Tonya and Brenda.  Alexa who is 13 months is always happy to see me, she calls me baby and likes to touch my feet and stuff.  this week she brought me a couple toys to play with then took some of them away, i made some noise and she brought them back.  her mommy got out her exersaucer so i could stand up and be eye to eye with Alexa (since we’re about the same size, yes i did say she was 13 months).  i squeezed Alexa’s hand one time pretty tight and she made a funny face.  She kept wanting to pat my head.  we had a good time.

on thursday yoga was cancelled so Tonya and Brenda came over to hang out.  they brought some chinese food and we played on the floor.  Brenda is 6 months old so she can move around more than i can.  she’s pretty tiny though and i’m starting to notice a trend here that all my “girlfriends” are smaller than me!  at one point one of us tried to put the other’s foot in their mouth. it was fun to have friends over!

simon has been noticing the pets more and more these days.  he has touched duke intentionally a few times now, even grabbed his tail the other night, although i don’t think either one of them knew it actually happened.  this morning since it was raining daisy was inside with us.  simon was on his play mat and daisy decided to join him.  she walked around him a few times, then lay

down and started to play with some of the toys hanging from the top.  simon thought it was pretty amusing, grabbed the top of daisy’s head and everyone seemed fine with it.  mommy was a little worried though, since neither one of them really understands the word gentle just yet!

after a bit of a long trip we arrived at the Ambachtsheer family cabin, Edelweiss in western nc friday night.  our friends April and Stefan joined us for a couple of days of relaxing mountain fun and fresh air.  simon had a great time playing, watching rick and april dump their boat at the falls, sleeping in the big king size bed and hiking his first bit of the Appalachian Trail.  he loved the mountains so much that he cried nearly all the way home!

the computer has been on the fritz a bit lately so we haven’t posted much.  here’s a bit of catching up since we last saw you.

Grandma Breese was here, she got simon some cool new toys and a cute outfit or two.  Grandma and Simon spent some time together having a nap, a bottle and dancing to some Jimmy Magoo tunes in the afternoon while mommy and daddy went to see the “Dark Knight” movie.

Simon has been sitting up a lot these days, he can now sit by himself propped with his hands on the ground or with his hands on his feet in front of him while he leans over a bit.  He eagerly grabs for toys placed around him and shakes things like crazy if they make noise.  He is rolling from front to back still and is so close to going from back to front.  He can roll up to one side, but has yet to go all the way over.  Diaper changes are so much fun these days as simon is rolling around, arching his back and grabbing everything, and I do mean everything!

Simon is also vocalizing a lot, trying out new sounds, babbling away all the time.  We’re also trying to remember to do some sign language with him for a few things like milk, mommy, and daddy.

All in all we’re having a blast!
