most of the time i really like riding in the car. there was that time in the mountains when we were driving around looking for the rodeo that i wasn’t so happy. but other than that i’m generally happy to chill out or sleep in the car. someone usually rides in the back with me to keep me company. mommy made me a cute book by cutting pictures of babies out of magazines and gluing them onto some recycled paperboard. i like this book better than all my books that people actually bought at the store. mommy is thinking about making another one soon. this book really helps me stay happy in the car.
mommy and i try to take duke for walks in the mornings as often as we can depending on the weather and what time we roll out of bed. this week we had some nice mornings. this is a picture mommy took with her phone of me while i was in the ergo. doesn’t it look like i’m all bundled up for winter? it’s just my fun orange sun hat and the side of the ergo. trust me it’s not winter around here!
nana teresa got me this really cute outfit. the onesie has a bus on it and the overalls are really neat. the thing is, i rarely get to wear it for very long because somehow i always manage to have a huge blowout when i have it on. this time it was exacerbated (big word for a 3 month old huh? i’ve been reading a lot) by the fact that i was in the bumbo. last time it was a bad one was when we went to visit great great aunt nancy in pa…i was looking so dapper until i had poo leaking out of every corner!
i think these photos will say it best
simon, mommy, daddy and duke celebrated july 4th in the mountains with oma, opa, tia lu (emily), tio marlon and marlon’s brother juan carlos. he also met his cousins luna and lightning, tia lu’s babies (mini dachsunds). in celebration of independence day simon continued to gain his own small bits of independence. he really has control of his hands now and can get things easily to his mouth. he seems to be using both hands to work together more now. he can even pick something up by himself if it’s on top of him every once in a while. he’s starting to do lots of crunches to pull his upper body up to sitting. these things in combination allow him to be propped up somewhere safe where he can entertain himself for a little while with a toy. the new bumbo seat is great for this, but he likes leaning in the corner of the couch too.
simon discovered his toes on July 4th and each morning thereafter, only seeming to notice them in the early part of the day. he saw fireworks set off by tio marlon and juan carlos. saturday night we went to a rodeo, simon found it amusing we think.
we also discovered he likes to play cards just as much as the rest of daddy’s family. we were all playing rummy and simon was interested in helping oma win a hand or two.
all in all it was a lovely weekend in the mountains with lots of fun to be had.
the animals seem to be adjusting to life with simon pretty well. mommy figured they deserved a post of their own to recognize this fact and share some funny photos. with mommy and simon being around the house so much during the day we get to see lots of funny things the animals do. dharma sleeps in some very interesting places as you will see. duke seems to be getting used to the fact that everything takes a lot longer than he expects it will when it comes to getting out of the house for a walk or trip to the dog park. daisy spends most of her time outdoors, coming in and out several times a day for what must be a teensy bite of food and then she’s ready to go back out. the cats are enjoying the new tables in the living room. they make it a habit of jumping from one to the other on their way in and out of the house. duke is sleeping (for the time being) on the world’s largest dog bed (in other words the futon tied to the wall). pic of that coming soon.
simon has started to notice the animals more, glancing at them occasionally, but not really seeing and knowing them enough to give a good laugh or smile just yet. this is probably just as well for them, as he has started to grab things and certainly does not yet know the meaning of “no”.
all in all the whole family seems to be getting along just fine.
