http://www.alongfortheride.biz/contest-s/49.htm” Win the Essential Babywearing Stash from Along for the Ride (one Beco Butterfly, one Hotsling baby pouch, one BabyHawk Mei Tai, one Zolowear Ring Sling, and one Gypsy Mama Wrap)

i’m working pretty hard lately on this sitting up business.  everyone else seems to be doing it and i really don’t like lying down unless i’m sleeping.  i’ve got excellent head control according to folks who know babies.  yesterday in yoga when mommy propped me up on the bolster in front of her, i was trying to pull myself up a big, holding my head and neck up.  today i was working on sitting up on the couch with my boppy and crab rattle.  ooh i like that crab rattle, notice the fun legs it has that i can stick in my mouth.  really gets the drool going!  check out the pic of me, if you look closely you can see i’m not really leaning back.  it is nice to know the boppy is there though, because my head does get heavy and makes me lean forward and to the side a lot.  won’t be long and i’ll really have it figured out!

alexa joy craig is my first friend, that is besides my cousin riley, but she’s my cousin, not just my friend!  alexa is my mommy’s friend amber’s daughter.  mommy has known alexa since she was 3 weeks old.  alexa is 11 months now.  notice if i could sit up a little straighter i’m almost as big as she is.  she’s petite, and i’m a lil’ on the big side some would say.  alexa held my hand when i visited her on wed.  it was sweet.

it’s been an eventful week or so around here.  mommy’s cousin ami, who we are calling “aunt” ami visited this past week from PA.  it was great to have her here.  she got to spend lots of time playing with simon and watching his fascinating activities! dharma and daisy were also very grateful to have an extra cat lover in the house.  dharma spent some time sleeping on ami’s chest and lap.  daisy liked having someone else to pet her as well as open the door a million times a day to let her in or out!

it was also the last week of grandma and grandpa B having their apartment nearby.  simon got to spend an afternoon with them while mommy and ami went to the north carolina museum of art.  mommy enjoyed getting out and being drool free for a few hours and simon enjoyed hanging out with the grandparents.

he’s quite active these days.  working on his sitting up (while propped on something), holding toys and getting them to his mouth, standing while held, and looking around at the big world around him.  simon also spent a little more time in the pool with mommy.  he seems to enjoy it.

so no, we didn’t win the lottery or suddenly get some windfall of extra money.  but since mommy and simon are home a lot and sitting to nurse a lot, we decided it was time for some nicer, more supportive, less pet-ified furniture in the living room.  it’s really comfortable, it looks really good and fits well in our space.  the tables have drawers in them which are great for holding all of our stuff (magazines, dog toys, baby toys, burp cloths, books, etc).  simon likes the new furniture and so do the animals.  we are trying to convince duke to stay off of it, not an easy task.  we’re hoping to get him another really comfy dog bed so he can have one upstairs and one downstairs.  he’s been through a lot lately and taken it so well, so we want him to be as happy as possible too.

why i love my daddy by simon

he helped mommy through the whole journey of bringing me into the world

he sewed diapers and burp cloths for me before he even met me

he thinks i’m the cutest thing

he holds me way up high

he gives me kisses

he gives me zurberts on my tummy

he makes diaper changing fun by making funny faces

he carries me around a lot

he lets me sleep (and drool) on his tummy

he makes me feel safe with his strong arms

he makes sure mommy and i are comfy when i’m nursing

he loves me whole bunches

he loves mommy whole bunches too

i think i’m a pretty lucky guy to have him for a daddy, mommy says she’s pretty lucky too!

so duke must be getting softer in his old age and with having the baby around.  dharma being next to him is the closest any living being has ever been to him for that length of time w/o some major grumbling on his part.

the pets are doing great with the boy…they’re all curious, give him little kisses here and there, and roll their eyes if he really gets into a crying fit.  daisy (missing from the scene) spends lots of time outdoors!

mommy & daddy are getting lots of great smiles these days, but sometimes they are hard to catch on camera.  daddy got a huge smile the night when he got home!

simon is starting to really discover his hands…he seems to know they belong to him and can do things for him.  he’s been holding onto toys for a while, but now seems to really know he has them and can put them up to his mouth.  he’s opening his hands a lot more now too and looking at them with a pretty perplexed look.

we met up with the folks from our birth class to share stories and see how everyone was doing on may 31.  it was good to see everyone and meet all the babies.  here are the boys and dads.  the other photo shows sandy and swee little charlotte (who was born a few days before simon).
